Sketch of Margaret, the Cartooney Chick

Margaret, the Cartooney Chick

The wonderful thing about art is that the artist has full discretion of his or her own work.  For example, on the sketch below, which I have named her Margaret, I couldn't really imagine her bottom torso (and I frankly need some practice on perfecting various body parts), so I simply sketched her on what I imagine as an escalator.  As the artist, you make the call to determine when your work is finished.  Of course, if you were employed as an artist, this may not be viable in a workplace setting, but in the comfort of your own home studio, you can say whether or not Margaret is finished.  I sure say she is.  Margaret is featured in THE OWL WHO LOVED VOWELS , an awesome rhyming children's picture book, which I illustrated.  Purchase now on Amazon for only $0.99.  PURCHASE HERE!!!

DESIGNER FOR HIRE

Cartoon Character Guy

Cartoon Character Guy

Learning to draw cartoon characters can be done in the form of doodles, or it can be practiced and perfected over time.  Your drawing skills will flourish once you can learn to move the muscles in your arms and hands the exact way your brain imagines the line, curve or image.  Of course, you don't have to be perfect in drawing the line or curve you would like to achieve.  You can draw the line or curve you need by repeatedly drawing the line or curve over each stroke until the several strokes you have taken comprise the correct line or curve.  Here, below, I struggled on several of the curves of the cartoon character's hat, arm and pants leg.  Of course, the beauty of it all is that once you add color, your cartoon comes to life, and their imperfections are shadowed by their perfections!

This sketch of the Cartoon guy is also featured on my Children's Picture Book, THE OWL WHO LOVED VOWELS which can be found on Amazon/Kindle for only $0.99!!

Thank you.
